Somerset County Orchestra – Works by Schumann, Saint-Saëns and Rachmaninov

February 22, 2018 at 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

£12.00

‘…grief should be the instructor of the wise; Sorrow is knowledge…’ Schumann’s Manfred Overture, regarded by many as one of his best orchestral compositions.

Do you need a break from this long English winter? Then let SaintSaëns’ ‘Egyptian’ Piano Concerto take you over the rippling waters to sun-drenched North Africa. You will travel down the Nile, accompanied by hints of a Nubian love song, before sailing back to the glitter of Paris.

The melody in the Adagio movement of Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony one of the most beautiful he ever wrote. In his ability to touch the longing we all can feel, to console, to take us over in many ways, Rachmaninov’s music is unforgettable.
