BEMP specialises in performance of unusual early music, and this programme of consort music is no exception, in which three different composers’ music describes the Arcadian idyll, shepherds, shepherdesses, gods, hunting and love. Under Musical Director JanJoost van Elburg a group of 15 singers will play their part in bringing the music to life with a band of instrumentalists playing instruments of the composers’ period, violins, gamba and theorbo in the hands of internationally recognised experts – Violins: Julia Black and Ben Sansom, Gamba: Henrik Persson Theorbo: Taro Takeuchi
JanJoost van Elburg is Principal Director of Blackdowns Early Music Projects and has worked with many groups of talented singers to prepare performances every year since 2004. In England he is also director of the Bartholomew Consort, performing throughout this country, in Holland and France. At home in Amsterdam he directs his own Lelikoor and is Director of Music at the prestigious Westerkerk. He leads many workshops and courses in vocal technique, performance and conducting throughout Europe.
Since 2004 Blackdowns Early Music Projects have developed a loyal following of early music fans in the area. Audiences return regularly to hear examples of the vast repertoire of glorious vocal music, performed by experienced singers from all over the UK, Holland, Spain and Austria.
