Laurence Blyth conducts Wellington Choral Society in an eclectic programme of music which includes three of Handel’s Coronation Anthems, Poulenc’s Gloria, Mendelssohn’s Hear my Prayer and Elgar’s Benedictus, with Héloïse West (soprano) and David Davies (organist). Doors open 6.45 pm. Tickets £12, under-18s free, from Taunton Visitor Centre or through the WCS website.
Choral concert to commemorate the 500th year of Martin Luther’s 95 Theses. The programme will show the effect that Luther and Calvin had on Protestant and Catholic liturgy and worship in Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and England. The content will draw on a range of music from Luther’s own hymns in the first half of the 16th Century, through to the Baroque masters of the 17th and first half of the 18th Centuries. Edward Goater conducts Taunton Choral Society, accompanied by Taunton Sinfonietta, in Mozart’s famous ‘Requiem’. Also on the programme is Michael Haydn’s ‘ Te Deum’, the ‘Nonet in F Op31’ by Louis Spohr and Joseph Haydn’s ‘Insanae et Vanae Curae’. Tickets £18 and £15 (Students £9 and £7.50) from Taunton Visitor Centre or through the TCS website.
Taunton Concert Band Summer concert will feature popular music from both stage and screen. Also featuring soloist from its very talented band.
