Blackdowns Early Music Projects: Music of Robert Carver & Ludovico Viadana, Director Andrew Parrott

Tickets available through the website, Ticketsource, at Taunton Visitor centre (01823 340470) and at the door for this interesting juxtaposition of Early Renaissance ideas contained in the rhythmically complex  Robert Carver Mass Dum Sacrum Mysterium written in about 1510, set against the  Vespers of 1612  by Ludovico Viadana, directed by the distinguished conductor and musicologist, Andrew Parrott

Collegium Singers Concert – The Voice of my Beloved

Music on the theme of love, exploring texts from within and without the ‘Song of Songs’. Music from the C16th and C17th including madrigals by Monteverdi. A focus on the C20th and C21st follows, exploring settings by Grieg, Sibelius and Sandstrom.

Wellington Choral Society – Handel’s ‘Messiah”

Laurence Blyth is conducting WCS in this much-loved oratorio which, though traditionally performed at Christmas, was originally intended to be sung at Easter. It is now hard to believe that this masterpiece, written in just 24 days, had a cool reception when first performed in London.   Daisy Walford (soprano), Juliet Curnow (mezzo-soprano), Nicholas Hawker (tenor) and Matthew Cann (bass). Amici – English Cathedral Music

With words by Edmund Spencer and music by William Harris, ‘Faire Is The Heaven’ provides us with the title for this celebration of English cathedral music.   Other composers’ works include: Elgar ‘Great is the Lord’, Parry ‘Songs of Farewell’, Finzi ‘Lo, The Full Final Sacrifice’ Also works by John Ireland, HK Andrews, Edgar Bainton, Charles Wood and, of course, Charles Villiers Stanford. The Phoenix Singers – Magnificent Mr Handel

The Phoenix Singers – Music Director Andrew Maddocks with soprano soloist Alice Privett will present a concert with baroque instrumentalists at St Peter and St Paul Church, South Petherton.  The programme will feature choruses and arias from ‘Messiah’, ‘Laudate Pueri Dominum’ and other great works by Handel.

Wellington Choral Society – ‘Summer Sing Choral Workshops’

If you like singing and are thinking of trying something new, why not join us on one or both Wednesdays, 6th and 13th June, as we explore a French theme in two Summer workshops, conducted by Laurence Blyth.
