The programme includes \nMass in D by Dvorak\nRequiem by Matthew Coleridge\nLove Divine by Howard Goodall\nPeace I leave with you by Amy Beech \nThis is a new programme of music for the Society and we are very excited to be singing such moving and melodic pieces. Matthew Coleridge’s Requiem was first published in 2016 in response to becoming a father and is uplifting and life affirming. The Dvorak Mass in D includes gentle tunes as well as dynamic movements. We do hope new singers will come and join us to sing this wonderful music. We rehearse at 7.30pm on Wednesdays at Wellington Prep School Hall. We also hope people will put the date in their diary for the concert in March. Tickets will be available shortly on our website www.wellingtonchoralsociety.org.uk\, from members and on the door.

SUMMARY:Wellington Choral Society – Jenkins –  The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace Cancelled
DESCRIPTION:A performance of this hugely popular work by Wellington Choral Society\, conducted by Laurence Blyth \nOn Saturday 28 March 2020\, Wellington Choral Society  will be singing ‘The Armed Man – A Mass for Peace’ conducted by Laurence Blyth. This mass was composed by the Welsh composer\, Karl Jenkins and was commissioned by the Royal Armouries Museum for the Millennium celebrations\, to mark the museum’s move from London to Leeds\, and it was dedicated to victims of the Kosovo crisis.  It is essentially an anti-war piece and is based on the Catholic Mass\, which Jenkins combines with other sources\, principally the 15th-century folk song “L’homme armé” in the first and last movements. It was written for  chorus with soloists and a symphonic orchestra. It is a very moving work and the haunting Benedictus that captivates listeners to the greatest extent. \nWe will also be singing Elgar’s ‘Great is the Lord’ and Vaughan Williams ‘ Five Mystical Songs’

DESCRIPTION:In a combined choir of over 200 voices\, Wellington Choral Society\, together with Exmouth and Exeter Choral Societies\, will be performing Ralph Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony\, under the baton of their shared Music Director\, Laurence Blyth.  They will be accompanied by the Exeter Symphony Orchestra and the concert will take place in the magnificent surroundings of Exeter Cathedral. \nAmong those attending the concert will be the Mayor of Wellington and the Mayor of Taunton Deane\, the Lord Mayor of Exeter and the Mayor of Exmouth.  The concert is sponsored by The Vaughan Williams Charitable Trust\, and there will be a retiring collection in aid of the RNLI. \nA few tickets at £10 are still available at www.wellingtonchoralsociety.org.uk\, seasymphony.org.uk or TicketSource.

DESCRIPTION:  \n \nCelebrate the festive season with Wellington Choral Society’s performance of J S Bach’s choral masterwork\, The Christmas Oratorio\, a wonderful exploration of the nativity which features some of Bach’s most spectacular orchestration. \nThe event takes place at 7-30 pm on Saturday November 26th at St John’s Church\, Wellington. Ticket prices are £12\, those under 18 free. Tickets are available on line at www.wellingtonchoralsociety.org.uk; from Nurtured by Nature\, South Street\, Wellington; Taunton Visitor Centre\, Market House\, Taunton; Wellington Community Offices; WCS members or on the Door. \nThe Christmas Oratorio was intended for performance in church during six separate days over the festive season. This choral masterpiece was written for the Christmas of 1734 and incorporates music from earlier compositions. It includes three cantatas written during 1733 and 1734 in praise of royalty or notable local figures. The orchestration demonstrates Bach’s most astonishing technical brilliance\, with glorious harmonies\, creating a magnificent rich sound. \nThe author of the original German text is unknown\, although a likely collaborator with Bach himself was Christian Friedrich Henri. The society will be singing Parts 1\,2\, 3 and 6 of the work in English\, using the translation and adaption by Reverend J. Troutbeck. \nConductor for the performance will be Wellington Choral Society’s Musical Director- Laurence Blyth. WCS and soloists accompanied by The Wellington Sinfonia. \n
