DESCRIPTION:Rejoice! \nMusical Director  – Elinor Cooper\nOrganist – Andrew Kirk \nSaturday 13th November 2021 at 7.30 pm \nChurch of St John the Evangelist\, Park Street\, Taunton\, Somerset \nProgramme\nSing Joyfully – William Byrd\nHear my prayer\, O Lord – Henry Purcell\nRemember not\, Lord\, our Offences – Henry Purcell\nRejoice in the Lamb – Benjamin Britten\nINTERVAL\nLo\, the full\, final sacrifice – Gerald Finzi\nI was glad – Charles Hubert Parry \nSo much to Rejoice in\, now that we are emerging from the pandemic.\nCollegium Singers’ last live concert was on Match 14th 2020\, just before the first lock down.  In the intervening months we have appointed a new Music Director\, Elinor Cooper\, who has patiently waited to work with us all. We resumed full rehearsal mode this Autumn and are greatly looking forward to sharing live music with you again.\nIn this programme we return with poignant festival anthems including two commissioned by the Rev Walter Hussey\, a great supporter of the arts\, who invited Benjamin Britten and Gerald Finzi to write anthems for his church. We shall also be singing some of Henry Purcell and William Byrd’s best loved anthems\, finishing the evening with one of the most uplifting anthems of all\, Hubert Parry’s I was Glad.

SUMMARY:Collegium Singers – Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem
DESCRIPTION:Collegium Singers enters its 25th year as a chamber choir singing a work which has long been associated with much larger choral forces. \nEin Deutsches Requiem is most often performed with full orchestra\, however at the request of his publisher\, Brahms created a version of the score to be made available for chamber performance with piano accompaniment (four hands one piano). This version of the work travelled to England for its British debut at a private residence in London\, presented in English and without the Fifth Movement. \nBrahms himself conducted around 30 singers and two pianists at that event.  The English translation used then has been lost\, so we shall be singing the original German texts drawn from verses of the Lutheran Bible. \nThe choir will be led by Tomos Watkins who has recently graduated with distinction from his postgraduate conductors’ programme and will be joined by two talented young opera students\, Freya Holliman and Jack Bowtell\, from Cardiff to perform the Soprano and Baritone solos.  The pianists will be our well-known local musicians\, Alison Pink and Karen Paul. \nThe choir will also sing the Stabat Mater by Giuseppe Verdi. \nTickets:-  Adults £15\, Students £9\, Under 12’s free \nTickets on line through choir web site or from  Taunton Visitor Centre\, Market House\, Fore Street\, Taunton\, Somerset\, TA1 1JD \nTel: 01823-340470  Open Monday – Saturday 9.30 am to 4.30 pm
