DESCRIPTION:BEMP is offering two concerts of early to mid C17th century German Baroque music over the Bank Holiday weekend\,  encompassing two ends of the musical spectrum in scale. \nEnthusiasts of solo instrumental music will be delighted by the first event\,  a harpsichord recital entitled PRELUDES\, PARTITAS & GROUNDS to be given internationally renowned Steven Devine\, whose busy career sees him performing as harpsichordist and director\, working with some of today’s finest musicians.  His programme includes works by composers spanning the C17th from Froberger to Bach\, including Buxtehude and Pachelbel on the way… and a World Premiere of a new piece written for Steven by Peter McCarthy\, who will be in the audience! \nThe recital will be of about one hour duration.

DESCRIPTION:JanJoost van Elburg will direct choral music retrieved from the archives of the Monasterio de la Encarnacion and Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales in Madrid. This music has rarely been performed in recent times\, yet it represents a large body of work by musicians working throughout the 17th century and even later. They were influenced by the legacy of the great Tomas Luis de Victoria\, who had lived in Descalzas Reales for many years before his death in 1611. Singers will be accompanied by Frances Kelly (harp)\, Peter McCarthy (violone) and Martin Perkins (chamber organ). Tickets £15 (students £8\, u12 free)

DESCRIPTION:BLACKDOWNS EARLY MUSIC PROJECTS presents selected works from the Eton Choirbook and other contemporary English music \nThe Eton Choirbook was created between 1500 and 1505 and originally contained 93 works by 24 composers from the early Tudor period. It exists in highly decorated manuscript\, and was compiled for use in Henry VI’s Chapel at Eton College. \nThis programme of a cappella music will highlight compositions from this extraordinary collection of works and also offer some insight into other English composers of the period. \nBEMP’s principal musical director JanJoost van Elburg will give a pre-concert talk on the Eton Choirbook at 6pm before the concert at 6.45pm on Sunday October 23rd. \nTICKETS £15\, STUDENTS £8  and under 12S FREE

DESCRIPTION:Blackdowns Early Music Projects’ principal director JanJoost van Elburg will \nThe programme will feature spectacular baroque works by  Heinrich Biber (1644-1704)\, Missa Alleluia a 36  and the Vespers a 32.  Biber was Kappelmeister of Salzburg Cathedral and explored the musical use of that astonishing building to the full\, writing complex choral polyphony for the Archbishop. \nThese works will be performed in true baroque style by BEMP’s singers with soloists Amy Haworth\, Sally Dunkley\, Hannah Cooke\, Paul Phoenix\, Mark Dobell\, Julian Stocker\, Jonathan Arnold and Thomas Flint (all from the country’s top ensembles – Tallis Scholars\, the Sixteen\, Gabrieli Consort\, Orlando Consort\, Stile Antico…) supported by the Monteverdi String Band\, His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts and the drums and trumpets of the Altenburg Ensemble.
