SUMMARY:Somerset Chamber Choir Christmas Concert – Tidings of Great Joy
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this uplifting concert in celebration of Advent! \nThe renowned organist Shean Bowers and Jean Kelly\, one of the UK’s most gifted professional harpists\, perform solos as well as accompanying the choir in this concert of beautiful seasonal music.\, an enchanting mix of favourite melodies from across the centuries. From Renaissance polyphony by Victoria\, through to modern-day classics by Carl Rütti and Bob Chilcott\, and a beguiling arrangement of The Angel Gabriel by Stephen Paulus\, these are just a few of the musical gifts on offer\, so we hope there will be something for everyone to enjoy. As well as the inclusion of a small selection of compelling narrations\, pertaining to the time of year\, there will also be the opportunity for everyone to join with the choir in singing two well-known seasonal hymns.\nA versatile and pioneering musician\, Jean Kelly won a scholarship to study the concert harp at the Royal College of Music\, since when she has enjoyed an eclectic career spanning classical\, contemporary and world music. She has played harp on several fil scores including The Lord of the Rings and We need to talk about Kevin\, scored for solo harp by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead.
