Amici will present an exciting new work by Bob Chilcott “The Rainbow” – and we will have the choir’s patron\, the international soprano superstar Elizabeth Watts wielding the baton for one of the items.  Sadly it will be the last concert to be directed by Andrew Trewhella\, our musical director since 2012.\nThe programme is wide-ranging; Britten\, Chilcott\, Vaughan Williams and Parry\, and will make a nod to Christmas as well.

DESCRIPTION:This Lunchtime Carol Service has become a regular event in Taunton as Christmas approaches.  We are delighted that Taunton’s MP\, Mr Gideon Amos and the Mayor of Taunton\, Cole Martin Strauss will both be attending the service. \nFestive readings and carols will help us prepare for this special time of the year.  The singing will be again be led by Canticle\, the Somerset County Council Choir\nFestive refreshments will be served after the service to give a chance for everyone to mingle and chat with friends.\nThe service will start at 12.45pm\, doors will open at 12\,00pm.

Rameau’s music elevates these conflicts into a realm of expressive sophistication\, making this opera a cornerstone of 18th-century French music. \nAlthough overshadowed by Kreisler’s fame as a virtuoso and his popular salon pieces\, his string quartet is a substantial and rewarding work. It combines melodic charm with structural sophistication\, offering performers and listeners a glimpse of Kreisler’s depth as a composer beyond the encore repertoire. \nSchumann’s String Quartet in A was composed in 1842\, which was known as Schumann’s “chamber music year\,” during which he composed three string quartets\, a piano quartet\, and the celebrated piano quintet. After years devoted to piano works and songs\, Schumann immersed himself in the quartets of Haydn\, Mozart\, and Beethoven\, determined to master the genre. The Op. 41 quartets were written in just five weeks and dedicated to Felix Mendelssohn.

DESCRIPTION:Marie-Pascale first studied at the Conservatoire of Caen and then at the Conservatoire National Supérieur of Music and Dance in Paris under Yvonne Loriod-Messiaen and Jean Hubeau\, before completing her studies at the Conservatoire Royal in Brussels and training as a teacher at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris.  She was an award winner in the European Community music competition in 1989.  Her professional career is divided between teaching piano and chamber music\, and being a concert pianist as soloist\, chamber musician\, accompanist and vocal coach.  In more recent years\, her concerts have included Twenty Contemplations on the Infant Jesus by Messiaen\, Mozart concertos\, Brahms quintets\, works by Schumann\, Dvorak\, Vierne and Schubert’s Winterreise for voice and piano.\nThe afternoon will finish with the serving of Tea and Cakes.

DESCRIPTION:Guest Director Andrea Brown\, in a programme of early music for voices\, sackbuts and cornetts.\nWith some themes relating to Easter\, the programme highlights two sections of Brumel’s extraordinary Earthquake Mass.  This is the  earliest known Mass of its kind\, having been written in the 1490s and surviving thanks to the interest of the musicians at the Bavarian Court in 1570\, who had a copy made.\nOther works in the programme include music written by Brumel’s near contemporaries Gombert\,  Ockeghem and Isaac.  We also include music by Lassus\, who sang in the first performance of Brumel’s Mass in the Bavarian Court as well other later works by his contemporaries\, Gibbons and Praetorius
