Leave your Lightsaber ™ at home and sit back and enjoy this wonderful music. \nDarragh Morgan is a hugely impressive Irish violinist who has delighted audiences all over the world. It is our turn in Taunton to enjoy the magic of his playing as he performs the beautiful\, though much neglected\, Violin Concerto by E.J. ‘Jack’ Moeran. Do not miss this rare opportunity to be captivated by this sparkling music brought to life by the Somerset County Orchestra and the superb violinist Darragh Morgan. \nGustav Holst became fascinated with astrology on a visit to Majorca in 1913\, to the extent that it developed into a lifelong interest. He wrote The Planets Suite between 1914 and 1917 with each movement named after a planet in our Solar System. The music represents the astrological character of the planets rather than their physical attributes. Whichever is your favourite movement\, you will love becoming reacquainted with this popular interpretation of The Planets.

Rameau’s music elevates these conflicts into a realm of expressive sophistication\, making this opera a cornerstone of 18th-century French music. \nAlthough overshadowed by Kreisler’s fame as a virtuoso and his popular salon pieces\, his string quartet is a substantial and rewarding work. It combines melodic charm with structural sophistication\, offering performers and listeners a glimpse of Kreisler’s depth as a composer beyond the encore repertoire. \nSchumann’s String Quartet in A was composed in 1842\, which was known as Schumann’s “chamber music year\,” during which he composed three string quartets\, a piano quartet\, and the celebrated piano quintet. After years devoted to piano works and songs\, Schumann immersed himself in the quartets of Haydn\, Mozart\, and Beethoven\, determined to master the genre. The Op. 41 quartets were written in just five weeks and dedicated to Felix Mendelssohn.
