Laurence Blyth is conducting WCS in this much-loved oratorio which, though traditionally performed at Christmas, was originally intended to be sung at Easter. It is now hard to believe that this masterpiece, written in just 24 days, had a cool reception when first performed in London. Taunton Concert Band will be featuring some of the band’s soloists in a display of instrumental flair. Solos from Andi Rickard (Horn) in Otto M. Schwarz Cape Horn. Nigel Hansen gives us a real treat on Flugal in Solo Bossa by Otto M. Schwarz. Emma Counter will be giving a dazzling display on Clarinet with Franco Cesarini’s Concertino For Clarinet. As usual, the training band will set the evening off to a selection music to suit all taste.

Bridgwater Choral Society – Faure Requiem, Handel Coronation Anthems, Cooper Benedicite (first performance)
Exciting programme of Faure, Handel, and our conductor Iain Cooper’s new work written for the Society, Benedicite. This will be the first performance of this piece for choir, brass quintet, piano duet and timpani. Full professional orchestra, leader Brigid Kirkland-Wilson. The Phoenix Singers – Music Director Andrew Maddocks with soprano soloist Alice Privett will present a concert with baroque instrumentalists at St Peter and St Paul Church, South Petherton. The programme will feature choruses and arias from ‘Messiah’, ‘Laudate Pueri Dominum’ and other great works by Handel.
