Taunton Festival of the Arts – Gala Evening

Taunton Festival of the Arts will bring the Music, Drama and Dance sections together for a spectacular evening of entertainment.

St John the Evangelist, Park Street, Taunton – Lunchtime Concert

Richard Huish College –  Advanced Musicians’ Summer Recital Talented soloists on a variety of instruments will perform a programme of pieces ranging from classical to jazz. Accompanied by Course Manager for Music, Kathryn Foyle, there will be something to suit all tastes during the summer lunchtime. Doors open at 12 noon and cold drinks will be served before the start of the concert. Retiring collection: Open Door and St John’s Church  

Taunton Choral Society – Brahms Requiem/Elgar

TCS’s summer concert includes Elgar’s ‘Scenes from the Bavarian Highlands’ and the well loved ‘German Requiem’ by Brahms in the perfect setting of St Mary Magdalene Church in Taunton. New lower ticket price for this concert!  The pre-concert talks on Cracking the Code by music director, Ed Goater, are gaining in popularity and make an excellent way to gain background about the concert.  There is no extra cost and you can listen while enjoying a drink from the bar and building…

‘The Muses Gardin for Delights’ Mary Morgan (soprano) and Steve Graham (lute) ‘The Muses Gardin for Delights’ was the title of Robert Jones’ 5th book of ayres for voice and lute, published in 1610.  There were several such publications in this “Golden Age of English Music”, the pre-eminent composer being the lutenist John Dowland. 50th Golden Concert – ‘Poetic Piano’ Oana Dinea – Piano Recital Our “Golden Concert” will be a real treat when Romanian born, Oana captivates us, during an hour of enchanting music by Bach, Beethoven and Chopin, who was one of the most sensitive composers of the romantic period.  It will be the first time a performer has travelled from abroad for one of our concerts. Lunchtime Interludes Queen’s College Musicians The Musicians from Queen’s College are delighted to be returning to St John’s and will be performing a wide range of music from across the ages – ‘something for everyone’ Doors open at 12 Noon and cold drinks will be served before the start of the concert. Retiring collection in aid of the ‘Out of Hours’  Courier Service for the NHS, The Freewheelers Emergency Voluntary Service and St John’s Church.

A Showcase for Young Musicians Wellington School Students High-flying, award-holding pupils will perform an eclectic programme that will feature a variety of instruments, genres, ages and stages thus demonstrating their versatile abilities. Doors open at 12 Noon and cold drinks will be served before the start of the concert. Retiring Collection in aid of the Archie Project, part of the Reminiscence Learning Dementia Charity and St John’s Church.

Amici – Will Todd jazz concert!

Having performed much of his music in the past, Amici is to continue its collaboration with Will Todd and his jazz trio. The concert will take place in St James’ Church in Taunton. Tickets £15 (students £12/under 12’s free) The programme is still to be announced – so, watch this space!
