Groups of 16 – 30 talented singers are invited from the UK and Europe to take part in 3- 4 day workshop weekends, preparing programmes of early music under the expert guidance of specialist music directors. Since 2004, each weekend has culminated in a concert performance in a suitable venue in, or very close to, the Blackdown Hills AONB, forming an important part of the musical calendar for anyone in the area who loves mediaeval, renaissance or baroque vocal music. Professional musicians playing instruments of the period are frequently employed to bring further authenticity to the performances. BEMP operates principally from early to late summer, under the guidance of Musical Directors JanJoost van Elburg and Peter Leech.
